Obituary
Dorothy A. “Bates” Johnson, 100 years old of Punta Gorda, Florida and formerly of Kewanee died April 30, 2011 in Florida. Memorial services will 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at the Schueneman & Tumbleson funeral home with the Rev. Bruce Rushing officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be at the Pleasant View Cemetery. Graveside Military Rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council, and memorials may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
Dorothy was born, October 25, 1910 in Kewanee, daughter of the late Fremont and C. Adelaide (Bing) Bates. She was reared and educated in Kewanee Schools, and later attended the Siona Beauty School in Kewanee. Dorothy was a veteran of World War II as a Sergeant in the WAC serving stateside. Dorothy married Harold T. Johnson, April 7, 1948 in Kewanee, he preceded her in death in 2005, as well as 5 sisters and 7 brothers. She is survived by, 13 nieces and nephews. Dorothy had been the matron at the Henry County Sheriffs office and jail while her husband was the sheriff. Dorothy was a beautician for many years.
Dorothy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kewanee, the Kewanee American Legion, Punta Gorda Elkettes # 2606, and the Port Charlotte Golf Club. Dorothy had enjoyed playing basketball at Kewanee High School, and also played for the Siona Beauty School team. Dorothy loved to play golf and had several hole-in-ones. She also enjoyed bowling and had several 300 games. Dorothy also liked playing cards, and other games.
