Obituary

Esther M. Fields passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, in Naples, Fl. attended by her nieces Susan W. Cook of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Mary W. Echols of Naples, FL. Esther was born in Neponset, Il, to Ernest and Ethel Fields on March 5, 1915. She attended Iowa Success School and went to work at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Knoxville, Iowa. In 1939 she transferred to the VA hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. In her 42 year career she served as administrative assistant to six directors. During the Second World War she worked 70 hours a week beside her colleagues to serve the wounded troops. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Lincoln Women's Chamber of Commerce serving as president and board member, Beta Sigma Phi, Altrusa Club and Pinewood Bowl Committee. She lived in Lincoln 71 years and was an inspired leader and diligent worker in her city's business, social, intellectual and religious life. She is survived by her two nieces, a nephew, David C. Wade of Yorkville, Illinois, eight grand nieces and nephews and twelve great grand nieces and nephews. She was a loving example for her family and friends and will be missed. Graveside services will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 23, 2010 in the Floral Hill Cemetery, Neponset, Il. There will be no visitation. The Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. is in charge of arrangements. Memorial gifts may be sent to Saint Paul's United Methodist Church, 1144 M. Street, P.O.
